01 · Problem
Walking tours run at one time, one pace, one group size. Guides and locals know routes worth sharing, and travellers want to follow them on their own schedule.
02 · What I built
- Tours built from video and AR guides pinned to map locations. Travellers follow stop by stop with maps and live location, at their own pace.
- Creator earnings through donations after views.
- A marketplace where local businesses commission content. Businesses post paid requests, guides bid, the business approves and pays.
- Built in Flutter, shipped to the App Store and Google Play.
03 · What happened
GuideMapp Ltd, co-founded with Chris Elliot, ran from 2021 to 2023 and shipped to both stores, positioned as a supplement to walking tours rather than a replacement.
The hard problems were the honest ones. Mapping and GPS UX that hold up mid-journey. Tour creation tooling simple enough for non-technical guides. One product serving two sides at once.
In 2022 we also pitched a SocialFi expansion around the app: a geofenced advertising marketplace bid in real time, creator rewards in a platform token, and land-segment NFTs sharing in ad revenue. The tour platform is the part that shipped.
